Waterproofing the floor, and more (the walls)
Ok, before I could even take a picture of our finished floor to show you, we had a terrible terrible rain storm... or maybe it drizzled for a couple hours. (We're just not as used to the rain and weather as some of our other family members!)
It was last Friday, and Terri came home from our favorite sushi place with us to see the progress on the bus. We pulled out the lawn chairs, turned on the radio to Christmas music, and poured a couple drinks. Next thing we know, it started drizzling, outside, and inside! UGH! On our NEW FLOOR! We had already planned to waterseal the plywood, and that's what we were going to do first thing on Saturday. Little did we know it was going to leak!
Some water dripped from the frame pieces, some drops slid down the wall, making buckets useless in that case. So, the rainbags were created. I taped the rainbags wherever the water was coming down, and put a towel in each one to absorb the water ... and it worked! Our plywood stayed dry for the night.
First thing Saturday, it was all about finding the origin of those leaks, and looking for others that might be a problem in the case of a real rain. Art used the air compressor to blow air into the little screw holes that once held the drip rails above the windows on the outside, and I kept watch to see where the air would come in on the inside.
Art put sikaflex on the inside. The outside will get sealed this coming weekend. The floor has now been watersealed... with *2* coats!
